Muffin goes home

17 July 2002 - Muffin goes home

Update from Rose Milne Second Chance Animal Rescue:
Muffin is now back with his owners. I saw Muffin on our Open Day (7th July) and he was looking really well, his knee has been sorted and he has lost some weight.

His owners had just got to a point where they felt they could not cope but now everything is going well and they are pleased they did not bring him back to us. So it was a happy ending!

Thank you for your help and we will certainly be calling on you if we should have any more Lhasa's looking for help.

Just recently we have been asked to take in 2 Shih Tzu from different homes, both of which are biting and we think they possibly come from the same breeder, but neither owner can remember exactly who the breeder was only that it was in Portsmouth. We have passed their details to Shih Tzu rescue as we currently do not have space to take any more dogs in.

14 May 2002 - "Muffin" seeks new home

Muffin is a 2.5 year old neutered male lhasa with a very sweet temperament. He has had 2 homes before, is used to other dogs & has lived with cats happily. He is currently with Second Chance Rescue in Southampton (details below). His coat has been clipped very short to keep it manageable.Muffin's current owners have had him since he was 1.5 yrs old. They need to find him a new home as they are desperately trying to cope with a catalogue of disasters at home, from a broken leg, being burgled & recovering from a housefire. Muffin is 'no trouble at all'! he has a very sweet temperament, is housetrained, is not at all destructive. However, he has recently had a knee operation & is now showing signs of problems in his other knee

(patella luxation - hereditary defect caused by a recessive gene. Condition is the result of a shallow patellar groove, the area of the knee where the patella (kneecap) slides, or the shortening of the ligament holding the patella in place. The abnormalities cause the kneecap to pop in & out of the groove while the dog walks (evidence can be seen in a limp/skipping gait as the dog tries to ease the discomfort in the joing & slip it back in the groove). Not usually debilitating because lhasas are small, but it is advisable to keep them from gaining too much weight).

This may not be a problem, but due to his now being overweight (his owners have been feeding him up while he was recovering from his first knee operation!). This will be checked out by a vet shortly. If an operation is required, Second Chance may be able to pay for it.Muffin was previously rehomed to this couple by Second Chance Rescue, after having been brought in by an elderly lady who, not surprisingly, found a bouncy 1.5 yr old too much to cope with. It was at this home that he lived with cats & had visiting dogs. He was also very matted & had to be clipped short.
